About Ron and Connie Winter
Ron was raised in a Lutheran home in Colorado. When he was 18, while attending a secular college, a friend witnessed to him and encouraged him to memorize scripture. In 1976, after having memorized about 60 verses, the Lord spoke to his heart in a Lutheran church service, through the verses that he had memorized. He asked the Lord to forgive his sin and save him. (In spite of where he was at the time, the Lord spoke to him, through His Word!) Being saved, Ron started looking for a church that preached the truth and the Lord led him to an independent Baptist church. Before long he knew that the Lord was leading him to do something in full-time Christian service so he attended, and graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO in 1982.
Connie was saved at the age of 7 and raised in a Christian home. She was a preacher’s daughter (in Missouri) for most of her life and was involved in many areas of ministry. She attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield MO and graduated in 1980. She home-schooled their four children and has been a help-meet to her husband in their ministry.
After college, Ron worked for 4 1/2 years as co-pastor, music, youth, school and etc… at the Bible Baptist Church in Fulton MO. During that time they took their first mission trip to Mexico and God started speaking to them about going to the mission field.
Upon surrendering to the call of God to be missionaries, they joined the First Baptist Church of Milford OH in 1987. They were sent to work with the Bearing Precious Seed ministry in El Paso/Mexico, taking groups on mission trips into Mexico. In 1993, they attended and
graduated from language school in Aguascalientes Mexico. They returned to the BPS ministry in El Paso/Mexico, and also had the opportunity to work with Missionary Rex Cobb, starting a church in Juarez.
In the fall of 1997, the Winter family moved into Mexico to start churches. They planted a church in Anáhuac, Chihuahua, a town of 16,000. The church purchased their own property, and was able to build their first building. From the beginning, they prayed that the Lord would send the right man to pastor the church. On April 5, 2009, the Precious Seed Baptist Church and their new auditorium, was turned over to a Mexican national pastor.
Their children have always been a big part of their ministry. As each one left home, they returned to the U.S. to attend Heartland Baptist Bible College in Oklahoma City, OK. Their help will be missed with the next work.
Ron and Connie have been praying as to where they should go to begin the next church, and upon taking a couple of survey trips, the Lord seems to be laying western Mexico on their hearts. One city in particular is Guasave, Sinaloa, a city of 273,000 people with many smaller towns around it. This area needs several good independent Baptist churches. Pray for them to be used of God in this great task.
While on furlough, they discovered that Connie has a rare type of leukemia. She has completed one round of chemotherapy but the cancer is not in remission yet. When her blood counts stabilize, the doctor will consider a more aggressive chemo. Please pray that God will be glorified in this journey as they look forward to returning to Mexico soon.
